First you need to login into your wordpress dashboard. Then headover to ‘Plugins’ in the left side menu. Now click on ‘Add New’ to install a new plugin.
Now you will be redirected to plugin window. If you know plugin name then you can search the plugin in the search box provided. Now you can see the plugin you searched for.
You can also check the details of the plugin by clicking on ‘More Details’. In this section you can find some details abuth the pllugin like,
- The description about the plugin and whether it is compatible with your wordpress version or not.
- Installation procedure for the plugin and when the plugin was last updated.
- Some frequently asked questions about the plugin.
- You can also go throgh user reviews before installing.
If you are satisfied with the details about the plugin. Then click on ‘Install’ to install a plugin. Now the plugin installation process starts. And after this installation process completed, click on ‘Activate’ to activate the plugin. With this plugin installation on your wordpress website is completed.
After this, go to plugin settings section and configure it. Configuring the settings makes plugin to work effectively on your website and you can make benefit of its features.
Upload and Install a wordpress plugin
Some premium plugins are not available in wordpress dashboard. In that case you can install a third party plugin by uploading its files.
You can pucrchase premium plugins from well known sellers like CodeCanyon, Mythemeshop. Some third party websites also sells premium plugins. Also ensure that plugin files are in .zip format as wordpress allows only .zip format.
After you have downloaded the plugin files from third party webistes. Headover to plugin section and click on ‘Add New’. Then you will be redirected to plugin window. Here click on ‘Upload Plugin’ and choose file path to upload plugin files. After plugin installs on your website, activate it to access its features.
Install a wordpress plugin using FTP method
Sometimes you may not be able to install a plugin from wordpress dashboard. In this case you can install plugin using FTP method. It is somewhat difficult for beginners to use this method.
To install a plugin using this method, you need to download the plugin from third party websites. After that extract/unzip the plugin files.
Login into your FTP account from where you can upload these files. If you dont have a FTP account, contact your hosting provider. They will assist you in setting a FTP account.
After logging into FTP account, upload the plugin files to ‘wp-content/plugins’ folder. With this plugin successfully installed on your website. Now login to your wordpress dashboard to configure the pplugin.
Things to be done after installing a plugin
After installing a plugin headover to installed plugins section. There you will find list of installed plugins. Some options are also available for each plugin.
Activate: If you have not activated the plugin, you can do by clicking on activate..
Dashboard: By clicking on this you can access plugin dashboard.
Settings: From this settings section you can configure the plugin. Configuring the plugin makes it to work effectively.
Support: In this section you will find some instructions to configure a plugin. Go through this instructions before configuring plugin.
Deactivate: If you are no longer using any plugin or you don’t want to use it. Then you can deactivate any plugin by clicking deactivate option.
